The Chatham: 2013 Street of Dreams House Plan

Start with a Cape Cod farmhouse home design. Add dozens of multi-paned windows, throw in a covered columned promenade, and include a comfortable indoor/outdoor living space, and you might just end up with the Chatham, our house plan of the week and Mascord’s contribution to the 2013 Street of Dreams. Let’s tour this gorgeous design.

The Chatham’s exterior pairs wood shingle siding with elegant columns. The façade effortlessly communicates luxurious living. A partially vaulted porch with no fewer than twelve Doric columns runs the length of one wing; a second wing contains a 4-bay garage. In the corner where these two wings come together we find a hobby/mud room, with plenty of storage space, a sink, and a built-in desk. Peeking through the informal entrance, we see a half bath and walk-in pantry on the left, and a wine cellar and staircase on the right. This area leads through to the kitchen, but we decide to walk back through the formal entrance, right in the middle of the promenade porch.

Past the front door and foyer, we walk into the vaulted great room. Two sets of double doors lead from here to a vaulted outdoor living room, complete with its own fireplace and outdoor kitchen. The outdoor fireplace is back-to-back with a second fireplace in the interior great room. To one side lies a generous kitchen with enough space for five to sit comfortably at the island’s counter. Also off the great room, we find a partially closed off dining room with 10-foot ceiling and a view onto the covered front porch.

On the other side of the foyer, we find the huge master suite. The front-facing vaulted master bedroom has built-in bookcases on either side of a fireplace. A set of double doors leads directly onto the front porch. No lack for storage space in this master suite; there are separate his and hers walk-in closets. As you can imagine, the master bath is equally impressive, with twin sinks on either side of the entrance, a separate stand-alone tub and walk-in shower.

Another half bath and a generous den complete this story of the Chatham. There are two staircases to the second story; one is located next to the kitchen, and a second staircase is found opposite the den, next to the master bedroom. As we walk up this second staircase, we end up looking down a long second-story hallway, with a bedroom, display cases and linen closets on the left, and two more bedrooms, a laundry room, and a vaulted bonus room on the right. Each of the smaller three bedrooms on this level has its own bathroom—no fighting for sink time in this home! The rear-facing bedroom also has a pleasant built-in window seat. The second laundry room on this level offers convenience, while the vaulted adds flexible space.

The Chatham house plans exemplify luxurious living at an economical price. If you’re looking for a sprawling home where your family will be able to bask in comfort, these could be your dream custom house plans.
