As a home that combines traditional beauty with simplicity of design, the Pasadena home is a wonderful escape from overly modern or complex houses. This Craftsman home plan exemplifies artistic components of the Arts and Crafts movement (19th century England), meaning that there is an emphasis on using natural materials, such as hand-crafted stone or woodwork, throughout the design of the home. It features three bedrooms, two full bathrooms, a good amount of storage space, and other fantastic home characteristics.
The casual and relaxed atmosphere of this craftsman style home can be sensed immediately upon entering the home. Once inside, you are greeted by the foyer and beyond that the spacious kitchen which is equipped with a walk-in pantry and built-in recycle center. The kitchen is interconnected with both the great room and dining room. The open floor plan for this area unifies and brings together members of the household as well as serves as a great space for gatherings with family and friends. The dining room opens out to the covered patio for when you want to enjoy your meals and festivities outdoors.
The two main bedrooms are located on either end of the house, one to the left of the entryway, one to the right of the great room, and both have an adjoining bathroom and lots of closet space. There is also a third bedroom which can serve as an office or den and has its own closet space as well. The two car garage is perfect for storage as well.
This home is a gorgeous example of one of our craftsman houseplans. In the mid-1970s, a revivalism of sorts began among American collectors and preservationists. Pottery, glassworks, furniture, lighting, and houses from the turn of the 20th century were rediscovered and being celebrated for their simplicity of design and traditional beauty. These artistic remnants of the Arts and Crafts movement, which thrived from 1876-1915 continue to be celebrated today.
Our Ranch style house plan collection comprises single level homes with long street facades. They typically have a rectangular or L-shaped footprint, and low-pitched roof - either hip or gable. There is usually minimal exterior decoration, and they feature simple, open floor plans.
In general, the ranch house is noted for its long, close-to-the-ground profile, and minimal use of exterior and interior decoration. The houses fuse modernist ideas and styles with notions of the American Western period working ranches to create a very informal and casual living style. Their popularity waned in the late 20th century as neo-eclectic house styles, a return to using historical and traditional decoration, became popular. However, in recent years, interest in ranch house designs has been increasing.
Our Shingle style home plans typically comprise homes with steeply pitched roof lines, and shingle covered walls. They also have a smooth surface appearance with little or no decoration. There is also usually a covered porch.
In the Shingle style, English influence was combined with the renewed interest in Colonial American architecture which followed the 1876 celebration of the Centennial.Architects emulated colonial houses' plain, shingled surfaces as well as their massing, whether in the simple gable of McKim Mead and White's Low House or in the complex massing of Kragsyde, which looked almost as if a colonial house had been fancifully expanded over many years. This impression of the passage of time was enhanced by the use of shingles. Some architects, in order to attain a weathered look on a new building, even had the cedar shakes dipped in buttermilk, dried and then installed, to leave a grayish tinge to the façade.
