A Walk Through The Albright

Few homes make a larger first impression than the Albright. At a glance, the sharp angles and sloping lines make you think of a rustic, rocky outcropping. However, the more you look at this home, the more you realize that it’s all modern in design. This Contemporary home’s exterior is full of interesting contrasts – vertical lines mixing with horizontal and bright whites setting off darker charcoal tones.

This home revolves around the massive great room. Imagine sitting before this room’s warm fireplace, wrapped in a comfortable blanket, watching through the wide walls of windows as snow swirls to the ground. In warmer seasons, sliding glass doors give you direct access to the delights awaiting outside – blooming springtime flowers, fresh summer vegetables or colorful autumn leaves.

The great room transitions into a beautiful kitchen and dining area where you will spend many enjoyable meals with your family. With walls on all three sides, the dining nook gives you an idyllic view. Plant a butterfly garden outside these windows or simply enjoy the wildlife that come to play in your landscape.

Moving into the kitchen, you’ll see that the island is positioned so that you can enjoy the view through the dining area as you work. Between the island and the counter space, you have enough room to prepare even the largest holiday meals – and you’ll have a centrally located sink, dishwasher and trash compactor to make cleanup a breeze. Plus, the extra-large pantry allows you to keep more of the items you need in stock, giving you more time at home and less time shopping.

Within the master suite, the Albright offers you a sense of privacy and openness all at once. This area is removed from the rest of the home, but it also features several enormous windows. Through those windows, you’ll spend many evenings gazing at the stars, and your mornings will be filled with sunshine and a perfect view of the trees and flowers outside.

The more you explore this home, the more you’ll see that it’s all about streamlining your life. For instance, in the laundry room, you’ll find the tools you need to keep day-to-day chores to a minimum while staying organized. The large wrap-around counter gives you an ideal place to sort and fold laundry as it accumulates rather than spending your evenings or weekends tackling a mountain of dirty clothes. The closets in this area put cleaning supplies at your fingertips.

The theme of seamless efficiency continues throughout the Albright’s upper story. Once you top the stairs, you’ll find a convenient counter where you can place laundry baskets or whatever else you’ve brought with you. Each bedroom has its own closet along with built-in cabinets, giving the kids plenty of room to put their toys away. Children will also enjoy the bedrooms’ corner windows. The bird’s-eye-view of the great outdoors makes each room feel a little like a treehouse.

Will This Design Work For Your Location?

All house plans licensed by Alan Mascord Design Associates Inc are designed and detailed to conform to The International Residential Code (for orders out of state), or Oregon and Washington local state codes (for orders in those states). We typically calculate and provide sizing of beams for a snowload of 25 psf. You may need beams sized to accommodate larger roof loads specific to your region. We are able to help with this; please speak with our sales staff to discuss your options.

To find out exactly what details you should expect with your Mascord house plans, see "What's included in a Plan Set?"

Some regions have additional engineering requirements, such as earthquake-prone areas of California and the Pacific Northwest, or the Gulf, Florida, & Carolina coasts that are frequented by hurricanes. Additional Wind and Seismic engineering drawings are required to accompany your home plans to obtain a building permit in most areas. These additional drawings need to be provided and stamped by a professional licensed in your state. In most cases we have working relationships established with engineers who can help you obtain the necessary drawings cost effectively, or you are welcome to source your own local engineer.

Your area may have specific energy codes that have to be followed. Compliance could include filling out forms providing evidence that your construction drawings meet requirements. In many cases the forms are simple and can be filled out by yourself, or with the aid of your General Contractor.

Building jurisdictions in several states - including California, New York, New Jersey, Nevada and Illinois - require that your home design is reviewed and entire construction drawings stamped by a local professional. If you are building in such an area, it is most likely you will need to hire a state licensed structural engineer to analyze the design and provide additional drawings and calculations required by your local building department.

In addition to the construction drawings, you may also need a site plan that shows where the house is going to be located on your chosen property, along with any grading and water management / septic system requirements.

If you aren’t sure what may be required, contact your building department and ask for a list of all of the items they require to submit for and obtain a building permit.

Although we make every effort to ensure the accuracy of our design information, we reserve the right to make corrections on our floor plans or elevations as needed.
