Its rustic exposed beams and columns, use of natural materials and built-in cabinetry bring to mind the elegant Craftsman lodges built in the Old West. Yet the Ashby home plans also include contemporary design features and construction innovations. As far as single-story comfort and universal design go, the Ashby is cutting edge. The 3,000-foot main level of this home boasts three bedrooms, 2.5 baths and a three-car garage. The second story houses a bonus storage room.
Walking up to the Ashby, it’s easy to admire the covered front porch with its beam columns and sturdy stone bases. To the right, you’ll see a window into the formal dining room, followed by the garage space. Three windows to the left of the front porch look into a sunny office, with a wall of optional built-ins. Walking through the front door and the foyer, you’ll find yourself in the expansive great room, the heart of these home plans. The full roofline is open here, showcasing stunning timber beams and ceiling paneling. Your family will naturally flock to this space, with its stone fireplace, wall of windows and patio doors opening onto the covered rear porch.
Opposite the fireplace is a spacious kitchen island, with a table space on one end and a sink on the other. Whoever cooks in this kitchen will still feel like part of the action happening in the great room, thanks to an open floor plan. Likewise, the sunlit dining nook to the rear of the kitchen also borders the great room.
Crossing the great room, you’ll find a small hallway leading to the master bedroom; a linen closet here provides spacious storage. There’s no better word than “gorgeous” for the master bedroom in this home plan. Located at the rear corner of the home, the master bedroom has its own double doors leading to the backyard, plus two more tall windows on each side of the main wall. Walking through the master bath toward the walk-in closet, you’ll appreciate the twin sinks, separate bath and spacious shower. For a set of Craftsman home plans, the Ashby is well-appointed with modern conveniences.
The Ashby’s designers thought through how bedroom placement could impact comfort. To minimize noise transference, the master bedroom is on one end of the home plans, while the two smaller bedrooms are on the other end. Walking back across the great room, you’ll see a hallway entrance between the nook and the kitchen. Following it takes you past the stairway to the upstairs storage/bonus room, past a bathroom and utility closet, to two bedrooms at the end of the hall. A door links the utility closet to the garage for a covered casual entrance to the home.
All in all, the Ashby is a Craftsman home plan that would feel luxurious for any family. For age-in-place enthusiasts, the Ashby is perfect since its layout allows single-story living. And for the growing family, the Ashby offers beautiful shared spaces and quiet private spots, as well.
