The Thompson: Modern Home Plan Offering Large Game Room & Much More

The Thompson home plan is ideal for a sloped lot. From the front, it appears to be a one-story property. However, a second story is tucked underneath, taking advantage of the slope to add more livable space. Let’s take a tour of this modern home plan.

An impressive covered front entryway with grand columns is the first thing you’ll notice upon approaching the Thompson. Additionally, you’ll appreciate how the home’s designers have opted to make different rooms of the home jut out for extra space. This is no flat-fronted colonial. To the right, slightly set back, is a two-car garage with an extra 9x11-foot space in the rear – perfect for your home improvement projects. Just to the right of the front door, set forward, is an office with corner windows. Windows onto the great room are set back from the front door, and the final room to the left of the entrance, the kitchen and dining area, is set slightly forward.

Walking into this modern home, you’ll find yourself in a foyer with a cloak closet to the left and the office to the right. Stepping forward into the great room, you’ll marvel at the sense of expansiveness created by 14-foot ceilings. Slightly lower 10-foot ceilings divide this space from the kitchen and dining area to the left. But you may decide to linger in the great room a while longer to appreciate its corner fireplace and built-in media center as well as its sliding glass doors out to the partially covered back deck.

The dining room boasts another set of sliding doors onto the back deck. With windows on two sides, this space feels airy. A hexagonal kitchen island delineates the large kitchen space; one side of the island features counter dining. This is a chef’s kitchen, with a built-in pantry and plenty of counter space.

Walking back across the great room, you’ll see the stairs to the lower story; we’ll descend in a moment, but let’s check out the master suite first. It is located to the rear of the home, off a hallway that’s also shared by the utility room leading to the garage; a half bath is also found here, conveniently placed right next to the great room for visitors. A set of double doors leads to the master suite, which is bathed in natural light thanks to two corner windows. Another set of double doors leads to the master bath, with its separate spa tub and walk-in shower. Double sinks are also featured here. Another door off the bathroom leads to the walk-in closet.

As we walk downstairs, you might comment that the home is perfectly arranged for single-story living for those who plan to age in place. At the bottom of the stairs, we’ll find ourselves in a game room with a U-shaped wet bar on one side. A second corner fireplace and media center are in one corner. Two spacious (unheated) storage areas are located on either side of the game room. Sliding doors glass doors lead to the ground-level deck, which is protected by the upper story deck off the great room and dining room. Two more bedrooms, each with its own walk-in closet, are also located off of the game room, as is another bath with a shower-tub combination and twin sinks.

All in all, the Thompson is a spacious home with room for growing families and the right layout for aging in place. This kind of versatile, open floor plan will serve you well for decades to come. And the connection to the outdoors, via the two decks, is also appealing. If you’re looking for the ideal modern home plan for a sloped lot, the Thompson could very well be your dream home.
