The Meriwether: Craftsman Ranch House Plan with Stunning Amenities

Today we’re featuring one of our favorite Craftsman home plans in our collection: the Meriwether. The charming front entry of this home is tucked under a row of clerestory windows. To the right of the front door, a two-car garage jogs forward of the entry, while to the left, the home’s second bedroom is situated forward as well, creating a protected courtyard feel around the main entry. We should add that the design details across the façade just scream “Craftsman home plans.” For instance, one hallmark of the Craftsman style is exposed rafter tails. The prominent rafter tails on the Meriwether’s exterior, along with the use of natural materials, are right in line with Craftsman ideals. Let’s imagine touring these Craftsman house plans.

Entering the Meriwether, you can’t help but be drawn forward into the great room, a truly stunning space. After depositing your coat in the convenient entryway closet, you’ll step into the Meriwether’s main shared area, a 20-foot by 16-foot room with 11-foot ceilings. There’s so much to admire here: the wall of windows looking out onto the rear patio; the fireplace and built-in entertainment storage area; and the open flow to the kitchen and dining area off to the left.

Wandering past the kitchen island and L-shaped food preparation area, and through the dining room with its built in buffet storage, you’ll discover a small hallway. This leads past a utility room and into the guest room – or perhaps we should say guest suite, as there is an attached bathroom with a full tub. Windows throughout make even the compact sink area and enclosed toilet/tub room feel airy. Wandering back into the small hall, you’ll notice that the utility room leading into the garage has a built-in workbench as well as space for a washer and dryer.

Walking back through the kitchen and dining area, you’ll notice an enclosed pantry just off the kitchen. Clever design here: The recycling bins are built-in, so you won’t have to worry about sticky recyclables clogging up the space.

Traversing the great room, you may consider that the Meriwether must “live quiet,” since the bedrooms are located in separate wings. On the other end of the great room, to the rear of the home, is another short hallway featuring a built-in niche at the end. Double doors to the right lead to the master suite. The vaulted master retreat area has everything you could want, including plenty of natural light, double sinks in the bathroom, a separate room for the toilet and a large walk-in closet. The shower in the master suite is ideal for those looking for an age-in-place or empty nest design.

The second bedroom on this side of the house is located to the left of the great room’s fireplace. Yet again, the designers of the Meriwether have added a diminutive hallway here. This design technique boosts privacy and minimizes sound. This smaller bedroom has its own walk-in closet as well as windows on two sides.

The other room in the home is the study, found between the entryway and the bedroom we just exited. What a cozy place to study – and it won’t be tough to keep this work space neat, as it boasts a built-in computer desk and bookshelves.

With that, we return to the home’s covered front entry. As you begin to imagine your family enjoying this Craftsman-style home, you may smile a little. Whether you have kids or you’re looking for a large enough home for welcoming guests, the Meriwether is a wonderful choice.
